As a scientist, I am of the opinion that we have an obligation to communicate scientific discoveries to a wider audience. Using effective communication strategies and approaches is therefore imperative. See our connection to the Flynt and Houliares families with respect to MTRFR deficiency (links below). MTRFR is a critical factor for mitochondrial protein synthesis, and together with Professor Robert Burgess (JAX Laboratories) and Professor Rita Horvath (University of Cambridge) we are developing effective therapies to treat MTRFR deficiency.
Further, I have a passion for science communication to the public. In Helsinki, I am actively involved in NeuWrite Nordic, which is an international group that brings scientists, writers, and filmmakers together to workshop pieces for science communication to the public.
